Radio - Sunday, May 12th, 2013

The show starts out with a Justn Ludwig interview. Justin just released a feature length film on evangelist hardcore called "Christ Core". Justin was in Toronto last Saturday and we spoke to hm before his first screening where he was here in town doing a series of Q & As on his film. I was a little excited to talk to him about his film and wound up cutting him off a little to many times, but he was a good sport about trying to answer my recollections about his film. He is a super nice guy and you can read more about his film on Facebook. You can also download the show as an MP3 file.

ROYAL RED BRIGADE - A-Love Radio (Self-Released)

I was listening to "Democracy Now" on Saturday and they did a feature on the MOVE bombing that took place on Mother's Day in 1985. I was looking for songs based around the interview with Ramona Africa and the other interviews with Angela Davis and Mumia Abu-Jamal. The first song was a specch by Angela Davis at Convocation Hall the night the first Gulf War was launched. I wish I had Anti-Flag's "Mumia's Song" and I mis cued the Propagandhi song which used a COINTELPRO reference. But Aus Rotten's song is an understatement of Ramona Africa's assessment which was a campaign of extermination.

ONE BLOOD - Make the Links (Gern Blandsten)
PROPAGANDHI - Ordinary people do fucked up things when fucked up things become ordinary (G7 Welcoming Committee)
NAPALM HEARTS - Guilty by Association (Helta Skelta)

JIMMY VAPID - Square Head - Round Hole / Something is wrong with you (Surfin' Ki)
TV FREAKS - Upper Hand (Schizophrenic)
RHUBARBS - Mountain (Wasted Wax)

In keeping with the Chris-Core feature the demo feature is Messiahlator from Edmonton. You can also download the "Brain Killer" demo from their bandcamp site. I had a power violence set to go with the demo feature but I ran out of time.

As mentioned in the introduction to the broadcast, this session was a long time in the planning stages. The original date was to coincide with reading week (Tuesday February 19th). For some reason we were not able to access the recording equipment that night, but we were able to do the first half of this interview, which was just under an hour. We covered the band's first three recordings, influences some of which we hear in their covers of Stars and Stripes and CCR and others that they talk about in the song "My Toronto", which is supposed to be an adoption of the F.U.'s "My America", except as applied to Etobicoke. If you want to download the songs individually go to the post on the Wastoid's Studio 3 session. Otherwise you can download the entire show as an MP3 file or use the player above.

Wastoids studio 3 session

This was our second attempt at recording the Wastoids. This sesion has been at least six months in the planning stages and after the last botched effort I was beginning to believe that it wasn't going to happen. Julian, is back from his schooling at the Omega house in Montreal and our first attempt was trying to squeeze somethng in on reading week where we were able to get an interview together. This session saw us record the following songs:

1. Wastoid Cru
2. My Toronto
3. M.C.A.B.
4. Hoop Dreams
5. Moon People
6. Fortunate Son (Credence Clearwater Revival)
7. Fuck You, Give me a Beer, I'm here to Party
8. Red Meat
9. I'm a Prick
10. Brown Sugar, Brown Liquor
11. Shaved for Battle (Stars and Stripes)
12. Fuck '82
13. CIUT ID

14. CIUT Ode to Dad Rock ID
15. EXD ID
16. Interview, part 1 - This was recorded on Tuesday February 19th when we couldn;t record the original studio 3 session

17. Interview, part 2 - This was recorded on Tuesday April 30th where we caught up on their new recording, their record coming out on Deranged and the show they have coming up with Australia's Vaginers.

To give you some background on the Wastoids, they are essentially from Etobicoke. Matt and Campbell play in Direct Approach. Conor played in Snakepit and plays currently in Spearhead. Wastoids is Julian's only band and he is very enthusiastic which comes across in the interview. The band has told me that the have re thought doing the Screwdriver cover which is great news. They did perform a cover of Choke's oi band Stars and Stripes and they also did an ode to "dad rock" doing a great version of CCR. I think they improved it. You can hear other recorded material at Wastoid's bandcamp site.

And you can see a medley of songs put together by Aldo Erdic of Punks and Rockers below.
