The Sound of your City drive

Tonight's EXD's portion of CIUT's funding drive. The theme is "The Sound of your City" and so as a way breathing life into the theme tonight's show will feature only Toronto bands. there are so many great bands in the city at the moment and so many from the past. Appreciate the sound of the scene that gets kicked around by the rest of the country. In addition we have a few pledge incentives that can only be gotten by calling in between 10:00pm and midnight on Sunday night. Those gifts include:
- 2 x Last Pogo prize packages (Thanks to Colin Brunton, which includes a DVD of the original film, a t-shirt, and that amazing poster designed by Rick Trembles)
- 2 x brand new Arson CD
- 2 x Sluts on 45 prize packs (which includes the ep, a CD, and a pass to their shows)
- 1 x Hassler prize pack (which includes a t-shirt and test pressings for both eps)
- a few copies of the first pressing of the Left for Dead / Acrid split buzzsaw LP without covers

You can call 416-946-7800 or 1-888-204-8976 or pledge on-line at http://www.ciut.fm/about/donate-today/.

We need the money for a new transmitter. We have been plagued by breakdowns on the production studio and as a result had to replace a new computer and we have had steady interruptions by construction crews around the station that have cut into our broadcast lines. This has happened a couple of times in the last few months. We could use your help.

Radio - Sunday, October 20th, 2013

Tonight's show featured Colin Brunton and Kire Paputts who are about to theatrically release their new film "The Last Pogo Jumps Again". The new film fills in the back story to the original film, The Last Pogo and tells in a more a comprehensive manner some of the stories stories of the early Toronto punk scene. Treat Me Like Dirt should be required reading before seeing this film, but you will still get a lot out of the film. The film will be screening at Toronto's oldest cinema, the Big Picture (1035 Gerard Street), on Friday November 1st for a week. Colin and Kire re-live the experience of putting the film together and tell us some of the stories behind this labour of love. Upon seeing the film in the theatre my reaction was this is a complete telling of the Toronto punk scene, this is an accurate telling as it captures some of the hard stories to tell and damn is there a lot of great music from this city. You should see it and you can hear the interview above or download an MP3 file here.

Jamie and I met up yesterday to relive some Problem Children memories. Tonight's show became a feature on the band trying to cover all of the band's histories from Tits, to Subterfuge, to Problem Children. We talked about their various recordings, their shows, their tours, the various line ups. It became obvious to me that Problem Children were another fantastic hardcore punk band that never got their due and should have. They had it all. They had great songs. They had a conscious. they had a sense of humour. They had gutsy hardcore songs. They played with a lot of melody. They had a totally unique sound and yet it was familiar and I remember skanking away in the pit singing word for word their anthems which I embraced as my own. They were a band that was courted by CBS, but they refused to take the bait opting instead to start up their own label, Problem Children Wrekords. An inspiring punk that lives by his own ethos that the future of the world is up to us. You can hear the show above or download an MP3 file here. Here is the few songs that we did get to play. Search out their material through Stumble Records.
